Incorporated in 1988, Dauphin Island is a city in Mobile County Alabama. It is the barrier island at the Gulf of Mexico. The island was named after Louis XIV’S Grandson, Dauphin. The city covers 167.1 square miles according to the United States Census Bureau. 96.27% of the area is water and only 3.73% is land.

The Dauphin Island has population of 1,238, which is divided into 373 families. The population density is 199.7 people per square mile. The racial markup of the city is 93.7% whites, 0.4% blacks and the rest are from other races.

57.2% of the people are middle-aged married couples. The average family size is 2.55 and average household is 2.10. The per capita income is $26,771. The average income for one household is $56,731 and one family is $54,844. 15.3% of the population is below the poverty line.

The first person to visit Dauphin Island was the Spanish explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda in 1519. Then, many explorers from all around the world came here and explored the city. The education of this city is served by the Mobile County Public School System, which has a number of schools in this area.

There are many tourist attractions in this city. Some of them include Fort Gaines, which is on the east of the Dauphin Island. There is a ferry nearby at the Gulf Shores, which brings people and vehicles to the island. The closest and best attraction is a clean water aquarium named the Estuarium.

The climate of this region is characterized by hot and humid summers with temperatures ranging from 30 degrees to 35 degrees, which makes air conditioning necessary for the people living in this city. On the other hand, the winters are mild to cool.
